Green Design
Environmental factors are an increasingly important aspect of industry
and responsible companies are including the impact of their activities
on the environment in their planning and philosophy. Pressure to
do so has largely been driven by government legislation and community
pressure groups.
The Swedish tannery Elmo has responded to these concerns by introducing
their new Elmosoft range of chrome-free leathers. For many years
Scandinavian tanneries have been obliged to reduce the amount of
chromium used per tonne of raw material, Elmo have now gone one
better. Not only does Elmosoft contain no chromium, it has no harmful
solvents or chemicals. Thus all waste is 100 per cent recyclable
into nature. Instead of using chromium, Elmo use biodegradable substitutes,
thus guaranteeing zero damage to the environment.
Under the catch-cry "All our colours are green", Elmo's
Australian representatives, Contemporary Leathers, have launched
the new range into the Australian market with 42 contemporary colours.
Elmosoft chrome-free is the perfect upholstery leather for both
commercial and domestic use.
Established in 1931 in Svenljunga, Sweden, Elmo Leather has a long
history as an industry leader. Today Elmo is an international company
selling into more than 50 countries. Elmo is renowned for its high
